The Sabah Land Rover Club


On November 12th, 2016 , the Sabah Land Rover Club (SLRC) was officially launched by Guest of Honor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai, advisor to SLRC and the Mayor of Kota Kinabalu City at the Sime Darby Auto Connexion Land Rover Kota Kinabalu Showroom. Attended by more than 300 Land Rover enthusiasts from as far as Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Brunei, Labuan, Sarawak and around Sabah.  The show was also attended by YM Dato Dr Tengku Zainal Adlin, the Patron of SLRC and Chairman of Sabah Parks Board of Trustees, Gordon Yap, the advisor of SLRC and the General Manager of Sabah Tourism Board, representatives from Land Rover Jaguar Malaysia, Sime Darby Auto Connexion and members of the media and press.

Among the activities held on that day were a Land Rover show displaying beautiful Land Rover vehicles from the classic series to present day models. Among the highlights were the very last Defender 110 station wagon unit in Malaysia which was registered on November 11th, 2016, a final limited edition Land Rover Defender Adventure Edition (only unit in Malaysia) , 60th Anniversary Defender SVX and a fully restored 1956 Land Rover Series 1 which finally came back to be displayed in the Land Rover showroom after been delivered to the customer 60 years ago during the British North Borneo era before the formation of Malaysia.

Other activities include the best in the show prices for Land Rovers who participated in the car beauty contest, a free photo booth pictures taking and printing by Canon Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., free vouchers by sponsors, lucky draws and a car care unit demonstration by LIQUI MOLY Lubricants.

Land Rovers have always been a heritage part of Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. The Sabah Land Rover Club was formed in celebration of Land Rover, it’s long history in Sabah and what it means to all of us.  2 types of memberships were offered, life and ordinary memberships, the life memberships are offered by the club at RM2,000 per membership with only a one-time subscription whereas the ordinary membership is RM300 per membership inclusive of one-time registration fee of RM200 and RM100 annual subscription fee. With an overwhelming response, the Sabah Land Rover Club received more than 150 membership registrations with 52 life members and 98 ordinary members.

In the president’s speech, Datuk Henry Hing, the explained that the club’s motto is Building Unity in Diversity and the SLRC’s foundation is built upon 4 pillars or core values – SOCIETY, NATURE, ENTERPRISE & FUN.

He further explained that since Land Rover’s early arrival to Sabah, they have always served the community, the club would like to continue to uphold this core value and continue to support community projects and promote unity, friendship and family values with our members and partners.

In support of this pillar, since the formation of the club in September 8, 2016, the club has done 4 successful CSR projects. Two projects with the Kota City Hall headed by Datuk Yeo Boon Hai, the mayor of Kota Kinabalu to provide computers and to help repair 2 schools at SK Ruminding Inanam and SK Tombongon Manggatal, one project with Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu South and HSBC Sports Club Medical Outreach Kanibongan in the Pitas District and one project with the District of Penampang headed by Luvita Koisun, the District Officer of Penampang and Umno Penampang chief Datuk John Ambrose to help one hardcore poor family in the district of Penampang where they carried out a gotong-royong to spruce up the house and provide necessary assistance just in time to celebrate Christmas.

For enterprise pillars, SLRC have plan to hold 2 signature annual events, the Borneo 4WD & Outdoor Show in June and The Land Rover Jamboree / Festival in December. One of our club’s core value is to organise events and promote sustainable adventure tourism for the state of Sabah.

For fun and responsible tourism, SLRC, through proper administration, initiatives and working together with governmental and conservation bodies, SLRC’s programs will path the way for sustainable and responsible adventure, with a strong stance on minimal environmental impacts.

For nature and environment, SLRC would like to promote and support activities that preserve and protect the natural environment.
